Support for Furloughed Federal Employees
Providing grocery gift card assistance for furloughed federal employees through United Way's Food for Our Friends initiative.
As the government shutdown continues, United Way of Northeast Louisiana is bringing back our Food for Our Friends initiative to support furloughed federal employees across our region. Through this effort, United Way is collecting grocery store gift cards to eligible federal employees who have been approved for assistance by our case manager. Together, we can keep hope — and pantries — full. United is the Way.
Community members can donate to Food for Our Friends by purchasing any local grocery store gift card—either in-store or online (Link coming soon! Check back early next week.)—and United Way of Northeast Louisiana will ensure they are distributed directly to approved, furloughed employees.
Gift cards may be:
- Purchased from any local grocery store (e.g., Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Walmart, etc.) *ONLINE grocery gift card purchases will be available soon! Check back early next week.*
- Dropped off at United Way of Northeast Louisiana’s offices in Monroe (1201 Hudson Lane) or Ruston (939 N. Trenton St.),
- Or mailed directly to:

Any gift card amount will be accepted.
Federal employees who have been furloughed and would like to apply for grocery gift card assistance may do so via the form below. Our onsite case manager will review your application and follow up as soon as possible. Please be patient as we process a large volume of applications in the order they are received.
